High Point SID: Baseball Splits Opener With Penn State
High Point’s baseball team began the 2008 season with a win and a loss against Big Ten power Penn State at the Coy O. Williard, Sr. Baseball Stadium Saturday.
High Point, N.C. - Mike Wanamaker, a junior college transfer making his first appearance as a Penn State Nittany Lion, pitched six innings, allowing just five hits while striking out five and escaping a pair of jams without any damage and All-American candidate Drew O’Neil recorded his first save of the year as Penn State won its first season opener since the 2002 season with a 4-2 win over High Point on Saturday. The game was the first of a doubleheader on Saturday after Friday’s game was postponed.
Penn State SID: Nittany Lions Fall in Second Game of Doubleheader to High Point
High Point, N.C. - After pounding out 10 hits in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, Penn State was limited to just three hits in game two and High Point jumped on the scoreboard early and rode that momentum to a 14-1 win. Both teams are now 1-1 and will play the rubber game of the three-game series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
