PSU sweeps Iowa, moves with 1/2 game of third
![]()
The Nits came through with an 11-8 win over the Hawkeyes today and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Penn State started the weekend just a half game ahead of seventh place Michigan State. A poor showing this weekend would have left them in the dreaded seventh spot on the outside looking in at the Big Ten Tournament. But they came through in thrilling fashion winning all four games against Iowa (although they did make today’s victory a little closer than it needed to be).
With the victory the Nits are two games over .500 in conference play at 15-13. More importantly they are, at least temporarily (most of the other games in the B10 have been postponed/cancelled because of bad weather around the Midwest), only a half game behind third place Illinois. That’s key because the Illini have to face second place Purdue next weekend while the Nits go up against ninth place Minnesota. With three or four wins in Minnesota, the Nits just might move up to third place.
Also, a scheduling note. PSU’s games with Minnesota will be Thursday through Saturday not the usual Friday-Sunday schedule.
