COLUMBUS, Ohio – Strong pitching from sophomore Ryan Ignas (North Wales, Pa.) coupled with another offensive outburst led the Penn State baseball team to a 14-6 win at Ohio State on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The victory gave the Nittany Lions' (17-22, 4-8 Big Ten) their first-ever road series win against the Buckeyes. Junior Ben Heath (Huntersville, N.C.) hit his third home run of the series and 15th of the season to pull within two of the Penn State single-season record while senior David Lutz made his 76th career appearance to tie the school's career mark. Penn State returns home on Tuesday for a 6:35 p.m. contest against La Salle.

A day after being held to only one run by Ohio State’s pitching ace, Penn State’s bats came alive on Saturday as the baseball team defeated the Buckeyes 18-10.

Penn State (16-22, 3-8 Big Ten) came out swinging from the start and put up four runs in the first inning and 11 runs through the first three frames. And while Ohio State (22-12, 7-4) kept up and scored 10 runs of its own through five, Penn State’s bullpen shut down the Buckeyes for the last four.

At this point you’ve heard it for the thousandth time on the radio or over and over again at a party, there’s no escaping one of the hits of the year.

“Tick Tock, on the clock. But the party don’t stop no. Woah-oh oh oh, Woah-oh oh oh.”

And if you’;ve ever been within earshot of the baseball team’;s locker room, you would also be all too familiar with the lyrics as Penn State turns up the iPod and blasts the song after every win.

However, unlike the singer of the party anthem, there was no waking up feeling like P. Diddy and there was no brushing of their teeth with a bottle of Jack (figuratively speaking, of course) for the Nittany Lions after Wednesday night’s loss to Mount St. Mary’s.

Alex Wimmers shut down the Penn State baseball team Friday, as he pitched a complete game in Ohio State’s 3-1 victory over the Nittany Lions (15-22, 2-8 Big Ten).

The Buckeyes’ starter allowed just four hits and one run in his strong outing.

The Lions scored first when freshman Steve Snyder had a run-scoring single in the third inning. The lead didn’t last long, as Ohio State (22-11, 7-3) responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning.

Freshman Steve Snyder (West Chester, Pa.) drove in the only run with an RBI single to score senior Louie Picconi (North Merrick, N.Y.) while Hill tossed a career-high 7.1 innings, allowing only three runs on eight hits against the high-powered Buckeye attack. The teams meet in game two of the weekend series on Saturday at 1:05 p.m.
